השיר הזה נכנס לי אל התודעה ב-2006. היתה איזו אנגליה משוגעת שחיזרה אחרי בתקופה בה שהיתי במדינה ההיא והשיר הזה התנגן ברדיו ואחר כך לא יצא לי מהראש, עד היום.
This song got into my mind in 2006. There was a crazy Englishwoman who courted me during the time I was in that country and this song played on the radio and afterwards I couldn't get it out of my head, until today.
ליידי היא לא היתה. אין כל קשר בין מִלות השיר לבין קורות חייה של אותה בריטית מוזרה שהכרתי, אך נסתרות דרכי תודעתנו ושירים צצים להם בראשנו בלי שיש לנו שליטה על כך. אני מתה על השיר הזה בכל ביצוע (קשה לקלקל אותו), ללא קשר לזכרון הקשור אליו, אותו אני מנסה לשכוח. איך אמרה לי פעם מישהי: "זה המחיר שצריך לשלם." היא לא היתה פולניה, כמובן… בנוגע אלי, בכל זאת ישנם דברים שאני מוכנה לשלם עליהם. שוה לי להנות מהשיר הנפלא הזה במחיר של להזכר במה שלא היה צריך לקרות. אני חיה בתקוה שהזכרון הזה יפול כבר לתהום הנשיה. אולי הרשומה הזו תעזור.
She was not a lady. There is no connection between the lyrics of this song and the life story of that weird British woman I met, but our consciousness has its hidden ways and songs appear in our heads without our control over it. I love this song in every performance (it's hard to ruin it), regardless of the memory associated with it, which I try to forget. Someone once said to me, "That's the price that needed to be paid." She was not Polish, of course… As to me, there are things I am willing to pay for. For me, it's worth to enjoy this wonderful song at the cost of remembering what should not have happened. I live in hope that this memory will fall into the abyss already. Maybe this post would help.

נסתרות דרכי האסוציאציות, אך השיר הזה מקשר אותי אל הבלדה על לוסי ג'ורדן של מריאן פייתפול. גברת ג'ורדן, עוד אנגליה אבודה, לא ממש ליידי כמו הקודמת, גרה בפרברים וחולמת בהקיץ על דברים שאינם בהשג ידה ופתאום היא מבינה שהיא לא תגשים את חלומותיה. הליידי שבשיר הקודם עברה כברת חיים, חוותה דברים, אך למרות זאת, נותרה הריקנות בחייה בעינה. לעומתה, לוסי ג'ורדן רק התחילה את חייה וכבר אין לה מוצא.
The associations have their hidden ways, but this song connects me to The Ballad of Lucy Jordan by Marianne Faithfull. Mrs. Jordan, another lost Englishwoman, not really a lady as the previous, living in the suburbs and daydreaming about things beyond her grasp and suddenly realizing that she would not fulfil her dreams. The lady in the previous song had lived a long life, experienced things, but still, the emptiness in her life remained unchanged. By contrast, Lucy Jordan has just started her life and already has no way out.

Pink Floyd wrote in Time (from "The Dark Side of the Moon) stinging words: "Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way".
What is there in this English despair? It really doesn't seem more comfortable.
