Children at an exhibition is an amazing thing! I like to see the curiosity in their eyes at the sight of the exhibits. They act naturally: if something does not interest them – they simply move on. Fascinating!

נפגשתי הבוקר בגלריה עם אמנית לשם צילומים עבור העמוד שלה באתר שאני מקימה לטובת התערוכה. זאת, כדי שיהיה לנו זכרון לאחר שהתערוכה תסתיים. עשיתי זאת גם לתערוכה הקודמת – "אישה מוזה". לא היה לנו הרבה זמן לצילומים, כי מיד התחילו להגיע אנשים. התערוכה בהחלט מושכת תשומת לב. ממש כשסיימתי לצלם אותה – הגיעו המבקרות הראשונות והתפנינו לעמוד לשרותן.
I met this morning at the gallery with an artist to take photographs for her page on the site I am building for the exhibition. This is so that we will have a memory after the exhibition ends. I did the same for the previous exhibition – "Woman Muse". We did not have much time to shoot, because people began to arrive immediately. The exhibition certainly attracts attention. As soon as I finished taking her photos, the first visitors arrived and we made ourselves available to be at their service.

אחריהן הגיעו עוד כמה נשים בנפרד וגם חבורה של שש נשים מבית אבות. הייתי באמצע הסבר על היצירות שלי, כשרחש הלך והתקרב במעלה המדרגות, מה שהזכיר לי את ימי בבית הספר, ביציאה להפסקה. בכל ביקורי עד כה בתערוכות, לא נתקלתי בילדים המבקרים בהן, ודאי לא בילדי גן. אחרי שהחלפנו מבטי פליאה בינינו, ביקשתי סליחה מהחבורה ומיהרתי לעבר המדרגות כדי לבדוק אם שומעות אוזני נכונה או שדמיינתי. ואכן, נחיל חמוד עלה לקראתנו, מלווה בגננות. אי אפשר היה שלא לחייך מאוזן לאוזן למראה המלבב.
Then came a few more women and a group of six women from a nursing Home. I was in the middle of explaining my creations, when a noise neared from the stairs, which reminded me of my days at school, when exiting class for a break. In all my visits to exhibitions so far, I have never saw children who visited them, certainly not from kindergartens. After we exchanged glances of surprise, I excused myself to the group and hurried to the stairs to see if my ears were hearing right or I imagined. And indeed, a cute swarm went up toward us, accompanied by their teachers. It was impossible not to smile from ear to ear at the charming sight.

ילדים אוהבים לגעת, לחוות, לשחק. היו בתערוכה כמה מוצגים איתם הם יכלו לשחק, אך הרוב לא ממש דיבר אליהם. היה ברור שהם יתגודדו סביב העבודה המדהימה של האמנית אולגה נחמקין, שיצרה פינגווינים חמודים וחיות חמודות אחרות מחומרים שהיא מיחזרה. היה כיף לראות את החיוכים על פני הילדים. הם אהבו גם את סוס העץ והמריצה שיצר האמן אברהם אלטרמן.
Children love to touch, to experience, to play. There were several exhibits in the exhibition with which they could play, but most did not really draw their attention. It was clear that they would gather around the amazing work of the artist Olga Nehamkin, who created cute penguins and other cute animals from materials she recycled. It was fun to see the smiles on the children's faces. They also liked the wooden horse and wheelbarrow created by the artist Avraham Alterman.
לא יכולתי להפסיק לחשוב שחבל שאין עורכים תערוכות מותאמות לילדים, בהן הם יוכלו לשחק עם המוצגים, לגעת בהם, לחוות אותם ולא לשמוע כל הזמן: "לא לגעת! רק להסתכל!" לא לגעת, רק להסתכל, ממש לא מתאים לילדים. זה מרחיק אותם מהתחום. איני יודעת כמה נהנו מהביקור היום וכמה התענו. חלק מהם, אלה שהיו מלווים באמותיהם שצילמו אותם עם המוצגים, ודאי יזכרו את הביקור אם התמונות תהיינה באלבום שלהם. אלה ששיחקו עם המוצגים, אולי נהנו. לגבי השאר – אין לי מושג. ישנם דברים שחשוב להנחיל בגיל צעיר. אמנות, גם אם זו נראית כבזבוז זמן אצל מי שקובע אצלנו את תוכנית הלימודים, היא דבר חשוב. זה מפתח את הנפש. זה מפתח את הדמיון. זה עושה רק טוב.
I could not stop thinking that it is a pity that there are no exhibitions fit for children, where they could play with the exhibits, touch them, experience them and not hear all the time: "Don't touch! Just look!" Don't touch, just look, isn't really applicable for children. This distances them from the area. I don't know how much they enjoyed their visit today and how much they felt tortured. Some of them, those who were accompanied by their mothers who took them with the exhibits, will probably remember the visit if the pictures will be in their album. Those who played with the exhibits, perhaps enjoyed. As for the rest, I have no idea. There are things that are important to instil at an early age. Art, even if it seems to be a waste of time in those who determine our curriculum, is important. It develops the mind. It develops the imagination. It only makes good.
