ב-21.3.2009 חגגתי את יום הולדתי באנגליה. יום לאחר מכן, כשקמנו בבוקר, התבשרנו כי האשה אחריה עקבנו בנשימה עצורה מאז אוגוסט האחרון (2008), עת עזבה את הבית בו התאכסנה בהודו במסגרת תוכנית "האח הגדול" (אותה מעולם לא שזפה עיני וזה גם לא יקרה בס"ד או בלעדיה) והתאשפזה לסדרת בדיקות וטיפולים בגלל סרטן צוואר הרחם, עזבה אותנו, מותירה חלל בלב ותחושת אבדן עצומה. במקרה שלה, למרות שניסתה לבדוק ולטפל בעצמה, הרופאים פטרו אותה בלא כלום ומסתבר בדיעבד שה"לא כלום" הזה היה בהחלט משהו ואפילו ממית.
On 21.3.2009, I celebrated my birthday in England. The next day, when we woke up in the morning, we were informed that the woman we had been following, while holding our breath since last August (2008), when she left the house where she was staying in India as part of the "Big Brother" program (which my eyes never watch and it will not happen in or without God's help) and was hospitalized for a series of tests and treatments for cervical cancer, left us, leaving a void in the heart and a huge sense of loss. In her case, even though she tried to check and treat herself, the doctors denied her as it was nothing, and it turns out in retrospect that this "nothing" was definitely something and even deadly.
האומה הבריטית כולה עקבה בחמלה אחר ג'ייד גודי, הבחורה שהתחילה מאפס והגיעה למשהו, ואחר שני ילדיה הפעוטים, מתוך ידיעה מעציבה שמאמציה להלחם במחלה הנוראה לשוא הם, בגלל מצבה הרפואי הסופני. לפחות משהו יצא מזה ומאז מותה – נשים רבות יותר הלכו להבדק וחייהן ניצלו בשל כך. מעז יצא מתוק, אם כי אפשר היה לוותר על העז הזה.
The entire British nation has compassionately followed Jade Goody, the girl who started from scratch and got to something, and after her two toddler children, knowing sadly that her efforts fighting the terrible disease are in vain, due to her terminal medical condition. At least something came out of it, and since her death – more women went for testing, and their lives were saved because of it. "Out of the strong, something sweet" (Judges 14:14); it was a blessing in disguise, though we could be better without this strong.

Angelina Jolie, may she live a healthy, long and good life, came to my life in 1999, through the impressive movie "Gia". I fell in love with her immediately, like many others around the world. Since then, the charming woman's career has skyrocketed and she was very successful, and among other things she has become a world ambassador of goodwill and brotherhood. Both beautiful and a baker.
הידיעה שנחתה עלינו בשבוע החולף על הניתוח שעברה, פתח דיון ציבורי ער באשר לטיפול ולאמצעים כנגד המחלה הארורה הזו, הפוגעת בנשים רבות כל כך, שפעם זה היה אחת מתשע, עבר לאחת משמונה ואת הסוף מי תשורנה (לא עלינו, לא על ב"ב ולא על אף אחת מדורשות טובתנו, טפו-טפו-טפו ועוד כמה טפו-אים ליתר בטחון, טפו + חמסה-חמסה-חמסה!).
The news that landed on us last week about the surgery she had, opened a dynamic public debate about the treatment and the actions against this damn disease, which strikes so many women. Once it was one out of nine, went to one in eight and the end who knows (not on us, not on our family members and not on any of those who wish good on us, tap-tap-tap and a few more taps for safety, tap + hamsa-hamsa-hamsa!).
כמו ג'ייד גודי המנוחה, גם אנג'לינה ג'ולי הינה דמות ציבורית שצבא של פפראצי עוקב למעננו אחר כל צעד ושעל שלה וכל פיפס שהיא משמיעה זוכה לכותרות תדירות. מאחורי החזית הפומבית, ישנה האשה הפרטית, זו שגילתה שהיא נושאת את הגן והסיכוי שלה לחלות במחלה הקטלנית גבוה ביותר. מי היתה מוכנה להתחלף איתה?
Like the late Jade Goody, Angelina Jolie is a public figure for whom an army of paparazzis tracks for us after her every step, and every beep she makes gets frequent headlines. Behind the public front, there is the private woman, the one who found out she carries the gene and her chances of getting the deadly disease are extremely high. Who would be willing to swap with her?
דופקים לנו בראש השכם והערב ללכת להבדק, להשגיח על בריאותנו, לחיות נכון, לאכול נכון, אך מה מכל זה אנחנו מישמות? כמה מאיתנו אכן לוקחות את עצמן ברצינות ועושות את מה שהן צריכות כדי לזכות ולראות את ילדיהן גדלים ומביאים לעולם צאצאים משל עצמם?
We are knocked on the head over and over to go for a check-up, to look after our health, to live right, to eat right, but what of all this are we implementing? How many of us do take ourselves seriously and do what it takes to get to see their children grow up and have children of their own?
אין ספק שהאשה הפרטית אנג'לינה עשתה את הבחירה המתאימה לה ואין גם פקפוק באשר לאפקט שיש לביצוע בפועל של החלטתה על נשים רבות ברחבי העולם. אני בטוחה, שגם היא, על ידי מתן פומבי לכך ופרסום המאמר שלה, הניעה נשים לצאת ולפחות להבדק. וכבר נאמר במשנה, במסכת סנהדרין פרק ד' משנה ה': "כל המקיים נפש אחת – כאילו הציל עולם מלא".
There is no doubt that the private woman Angelina made the right choice for her and there is also no doubt as to the effect that the actual execution of her decision has on many women around the world. I'm sure that she, as well, by publicly announcing this and publishing her article, motivated women to go out and at least get tested. And it has already been said in the Mishnah, in Tractate Sanhedrin, Chapter 4, Mishnah 5: "Everyone who sustains one soul – as if he saved a whole world".
