Greta Thunberg – School strike for climate
With all the mess that is going on around because of the failing government that is not taking proper care of Corona, tomorrow is added as well. Who knows if school year will open at all and how?
I remember the nights before school year started, the excitement, the anticipation, the curiosity to study. In my time we loved to study. Most of us. It was interesting for us, especially with the good teachers we had. If I think about it now, I mostly had female teachers, luckily, and they were great. I still remember them all, even the English teacher who insisted to be called "Teacher", so we never knew her name, not even her first one. I always got along with them all – I loved them and they loved me. I didn't have any teacher who was against me or I was against her.
In elementary school, I had an agriculture teacher, whose round face I still remember, as well as the smell of the aftershave he was wearing, the only male teacher who smelled pleasant. There was my sports teacher, by whom I excelled in the 60 and 100 m run, throwing the hockey ball, and shot put, as well as in dodgeball – all within the school team. I didn't like this teacher, but I liked the sporty activity very much.
In high school, I had a literature teacher who I really hated. He was attractive and handsome, and all the girls fainted at him, but he made no impression on me at all, mainly because he wanted us to recite like parrots the substance he dictated to us and didn't allow any independent opinion about the material being taught. Literature is not mathematics, literature is not something accurate, but a profession whose job is (in my opinion) to develop thought and imagination. Never, in any test, did I really write what he dictated, but my independent opinions about the texts studied. At the end of my answers, in 2-3 lines, I would comment that he taught so and so, according to what he dictated to us, to show him that I had certainly memorized, but I didn't agree with the conclusions he dictated to us. Always, in every test, he gave me 2 grades: one was 'fairly good' (70%), because I didn't stick to what he wanted us to chew, and the other – 'excellent', for the original thought. The certificate said 'good' (80%). I didn't argue about it, although I thought I deserved more.
The principals in the schools I attended were men. Always. Not really role models for the female students. Today, fortunately, it is completely different. Women run most schools because the profession has become essentially feminine. For me, this is excellent, because the male models of the inferior gender (boys) in Israel are not really delightful. Fact, how our society looks like – patriarchal, the "culture" of rape rules the roost, and women are still considered the objects of men and not equal to them. As a society, we can really be no light unto the nations, by any means, to anything reminiscent of decency, morality and kindness.
Why Reopening Schools Could Be So Dangerous
In one sentence:
The school year is scheduled to begin tomorrow. Wishing all students success in dealing with what lies ahead.
