Here, There and Everywhere
How time runs even when we're not having fun… Who's counting, but thirty-five years have passed by without us noticing. We advanced in age… How things we loved, that we were used to, vanish. So bad.

IThe world is changing. Things around us change shape or just disappear on us. Things we loved, qualities we wanted to last with us forever, are fading – sometimes unintentionally and sometimes in front of our longing desperate eyes. Very bad.

It started with Fridays at noon, then it became Fridays in the afternoon. Now it will be a different Friday, I'll miss it. A shame.

I have no idea how this happened and why Yehudit Ben Yaakov left today, and why this excellent program came off the broadcast schedule. How quality vanishes from our lives. How culture is decreasing. So bad!

In essence:
An era ended and it's a shame.
4.8.2019
4.8.2019
I wrote this post on 28.11.2014, the day the last programme was aired. I was very sad, I had a bad feeling in my heart, a hard sense of departure. It's been almost 5 years now and those feelings still permeate me. My longing for this excellent program is still here. Sadness has no end.
Radio has always been a great love of mine, since childhood. I used to stick to the receiver and listen to different shows, especially the ones I loved. The voices of the narrators (women, not men) and the tone they used, attracted me to check if the program was interesting. For me, the voice is the basis. After that comes the content. If the voice is amazing and the content is on the face (a Hebrew term to "very bad, terrible") – it won't work for me.
There were interesting music programmes throughout my adolescence. I learned a lot from them, especially from those who were dedicated to higher quality, ground breaking and less mainstream music. Needless to say, over the years, this music has become common to most of the population and has become less "unique" to the ear that got used to it. The only thing wrong, in my opinion, was that there were musical editors with a certain taste and no say for others, for those with different tastes in order to open new things to the listeners.
In Yehudit Ben Jacob's programme, first of all, was the amazing, unique voice; then, the excellent editing by Dalia Heller, that the music she brought was so well suited to the atmosphere of the programme; then, the things Ben Yaakov said between the songs out of her heart. The result was a combination of two very talented women who made a great radio programme. I couldn't imagine a Friday without this programme. When it started, it escorted me on my way home from work, from Tel Aviv to Rishon Lezion. After it moved to the afternoons, this programme accompanied me the closing of my cooking for the Shabbat. It was a sheer pleasure to hear her voice accompanying me in my activities.
For me, quality is something I learn from new things, new insights, my head opens to things I didn't know before, even if I don't agree with everything. The things that Ben Yaakov voiced in her programme were amazing to me in terms of their enlightenment. As known, I am not a follower of the nonsense of the New Age, but at the same time, when there are things that seem clever to me – I tend to embrace them. As someone who prefers not to toe the line of conventions (even if of any innovations, including spiritual ones), I try to examine things that are brought to my doorstep before deciding what to do with them. At the same time, hearing, receiving, working in the brain and heart what Ben Yaakov heard – it was amazing. An amazing woman!
I know that it is not wise to cling to things that were and no longer are, because they have been gone, vanished and will not return. It's like banging your head against a wall. will it help? What can be done, is to preserve these things. At least try. New generations are popping up and I'm sure many of them will be able to find interest in these old programs too, if they were preserved. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority has a tendency to destroy cultural assets, which is one big pity.
In one sentence:
I wonder why somebody won't pick up the gauntlet and gather all "Here, There and Everywhere" programmes under one accessible site so we will be able to listen to them when we like and preserve them for future generations. Just a thought and a call for action.
