Kate Drummond – Chasing dreams and beginning again
Whenever a new week begins, it's a promise of fun that awaits me throughout the week.
No one is able to know what the future will bring, not even all the astrologers practicing the horoscopes. All you can know is that the future is a surprise. As an optimistic woman, I always look forward to a good future. Occasionally, I get disappointed, even very much, depending on the circumstances, but usually good things happen to me, may there be more like them!
Usually, I usually sit on a Friday afternoon and plan the following week. Sometimes I put it off for Saturday night, but I prefer my Fridays. Then there is the quiet of before the Sabbath, no phones and no distractions. If it's winter, I sit in the heated study room or sometimes in the living room and write down the tasks I'm aiming for this week. In the summer, I usually do this on the balcony. Usually a breeze blows, sometimes light and sometimes awake, which dissipates the heat.
Before the Corona, I had quite a bit of activity during the weekdays. There were the movies at 4 p.m. on Sundays, there were visiting friends, sitting together in cafés or restaurants, we had good times. Since the Corona, we don't have it anymore. It's all got closed, and even if the restaurants and cafés have opened now and my friends have started hanging there, I don't see myself joining them. It seems to me that this episode of entertainment is closed for me, at least for a while, as long as possible.
"So, are you going to stay closed in the house and you won't go out for a breath or some air?" A friend wondered when she called to check on what I was doing and how I was dealing with the reopening of everything.
"I'm breathing enough air in my balcony," I replied, "want to join me for coffee?" I regret it immediately. Why would I want her to come to me with her viruses? I will have to sit with a mask while she's visiting.
"Thanks, but I just returned from lunch at the restaurant," she politely refuses. "It was very tasty." I'm relieved.
I can't imagine myself doing like she did. Just the mere thought of a stranger preparing the meal for me and having no idea what his health condition is, I feel horrified. Even before the Corona, I wasn't happy to eat what was made by stranger's hands, but it was before the pandemic, before the possibility that everything could infect, that you are nowhere safe, not even walking in the street wearing a mask, because someone may have passed there a few minutes before you and left his bacteria, not to mention his viruses. "Do you record this in your diary so you know where you were and count 14 days from today?" I'm asking.
"No way?" She is shocked. "Why should I do that? You can't live like that! I want to live, enjoy life, not be afraid of anything."
"But it's like hiding your head in the ground!" I express my huge amazement. "I really can't understand it!"
"How is it hiding? The Ministry of Health announced that we can go anywhere. Put on masks and get out," she wonders.
"And also wash your hands a million times and use hand sanitizer and all that crap," I mock her because it's really ridiculous. "Until it passes completely, I continue to take maximum precautions. I plan to live as much as possible." I hear her sigh one her side of the line and we part. I'm not planning to see her any time soon
