A. The bus stop at the exit from Hadera, Thursday, 19th Tevet 15.1.2009
The waiting crowd was very impatient. Half an hour has passed and there is no bus to Katzir. I pass my gaze around. Hadera. A city of terror attacks. I hope that no terror attack would find me now. I don't feel I should dye. Not yet. Not to get injured either. I don't have the mental strength to cope now, I'm wounded enough by life. An atmosphere of tension in the air. The news from Gaza is streaming from a distant transistor. The nearby café broadcasts war images. On the screen it is written in bold letters: "Operation Cast Lead ". I wish for our soldiers to stay alive. May they return home safely. You say Amen, right?
It's been more than half an hour. Almost an hour has passed. Waiting is our life. An inspector passes by and stops next to a blue commercial car. Even though it was parked legally, he examines it with hungry eyes, his device is ready to type. He looks around, maybe he will notice some image rushing to cancel the evil before it becomes a painful ticket in the pocket. No one is in sight. The inspector attaches the paper he produced to the wiper of the car.
A young man walks past me, his crutches carrying him slowly on one leg. He stops by the blue car, looks in disbelief at its front window. On the bench next to me, a woman clicks her tongue, wiping a tear from her eye. I nod to her in participation. My eye is not dry either. The guy sends a gaze to the sides, then turns to us, his face scrunched up. He collects the report and walks over to the driver's side. The orphaned pants, neatly folded under his thigh, glare at us with a thunderous rebuke.
As his car passes us, my gaze falls on the disabled license plate that lay in agony on the dashboard. I try to meet the driver's gaze, but his eyes are on the road, the look on his face says acceptance.

B. Hadera, Day of Remembrance for the fallen of the IDF, Monday, Thursday Bayer 5777 19.4.2010
The memorial square is full of crowds of people flooding the roads around it and also the nearby streets. It seems that the whole city has gathered to honour the fallen. The trees look beautiful today, combed, arranged, ready for the commemorative status. The monuments emit the fire of memory into the clear sky.
The crowd is organizing to march to the cemetery, where the ceremony is supposed to take place. I pull out my camera and position myself in front of the marchers to capture them at the right angle. Right in front of me, in the first row, next to the mayor, a guy in uniform sits on a wheelchair, medals pinned to his shirt, along with the symbols of the unit he served in. He looks familiar to me, but I know for sure it is not personally. The wheels in my mind roll his image, straining to remember. My gaze falls on the folded military pants. I raise my eyes to his face and recognize very well.
The supplementary version:
And last night… Like every year, the dignitaries gathered for the opening ceremony of the Memorial Day events. And like every year, despite his extreme age, our indefatigable president has not yet managed to learn what humility, modesty and respect are. As every year, instead of him passing the torch to the widow, the current one presents the torch to the president. And this morning, I guess it will repeat itself, the chosen widow agrees to present the wreath to the president so that he can place it on the grave.
The shortened version:
May the souls of the fallen be bundled in the bundle of life and in the building of the Land of Israel we will be comforted.
